Wooden Staircases

Sculptural Vertical Engineering in Solid African Hardwoods

Transforming vertical circulation into the sculptural centerpiece of the home. We engineer and handcraft bespoke solid hardwood staircases—from cantilevered floating treads anchored to concealed steel spines to grand curving stairwells, closed-riser hardwood flights, and hand-turned baluster assemblies.

Architectural Standards Dossier

Engineering, Geometry & Precision

How our master joiners and site engineers execute wooden staircases to European architectural tolerances.

Staircases are the architectural spine of multi-story residences. Our workshop fabricates each flight by pairing structural timber engineering with artisanal joinery. Whether designing a minimalist cantilevered floating staircase that appears weightless or a grand traditional closed-riser staircase with turned newel posts, every millimeter is cut, planed, and finished in our climate-controlled Nairobi workshop before on-site installation.

We exclusively mill seasoned African Mahogany (Khaya anthotheca), prime Mvule, and kiln-stabilized American White Oak, dried to 8–11% moisture content to prevent seasonal movement. Each tread features 38mm to 65mm solid wood thickness, routed anti-slip bullnose front edges, and structural mortise-and-tenon or concealed steel-bracket housings.

Our installation protocol eliminates creaks and structural vibration through polyurethane acoustic bedding and Torx T25 high-tensile structural fasteners. Treads are treated with three coats of non-yellowing, traffic-rated satin polyurethane to endure decades of continuous use.

Frequently Asked Technical Questions

Common Inquiries for Wooden Staircases

Yes. For existing masonry or concrete block walls, we open localized vertical pockets to anchor a concealed structural steel stringer with chemical anchor bolts (Hilti HIT-HY 200) into reinforced concrete columns or ring beams. The wall is then replastered, leaving only the solid hardwood treads visibly protruding from the wall.
